(west side) 9/314 The Anchor Inn 1.10.82 and rear courtyard
GV II
Public house. C16 and earlier in origin, rebuilt C18. Timber framed and clad with painted brick and rendered and extended with painted brick. Plain tiled roof. Built in at least 4 phases. One storey and attic and 2 storeys on plinth with roof hipped at right, stepped down 3 times to left with 2 hipped dormers to left and stacks at end right, centre right and at end left. Irregular fenestration of 2 glazing bar sashes to right on first floor, and 4 C19 plate glass windows with transomed window and half-glazed door ensemble to centre right with fascia over on pilasters, and half-glazed doors to left and at end right. The central single storey block is probably the remains of a hall house extended to left and to rear in C16, and rebuilt to right c.1700 and all altered early C19. Rear courtyard with 2 storey stable block of red brick with plain tiled roof, half-hipped with loft doors, joined to main building by late C19 weather boarded and slate roofed 2 storey block with ground floor pentice.
