SD 55 SE OVER WYRESDALE ABBEYSTEAD

12/39 Lancaster Lodge - - II

Lodge to Abbeystead (q.v.), 1887, probably by Douglas. Sandstone rubble with slate roof. 2 storeys. Windows rebated and chamfered with mullions. The south wall, facing the drive, has a projecting wing at the right. This has a 5-light window on the ground floor, with the outer lights canted back and the corners of the 1st floor wall oversailing. The 1st floor window is of 4 lights. Under the apex of the gable is a round window. At the left of the facade is a one-light window. To its right is a door with moulded surround and shaped lintel inscribed: '18 S 87'. Coped gables. Chimney at junction of 2 roof ridges. The west gable wall has its upper storey jettied on stone corbels, a 2-light ground-floor window and 2 similar windows on the 1st floor at different' levels. At the left of the wall is a chimney.
