Congregational Chapel

GV II

Chapel, opened 1816. Squared watershot sandstone with stone slate
roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays. Windows have plain stone surrounds. Those
on the 1st floor are modern, but the 2 on the ground floor have
margin lights. The doors, in the outer bays, have plain stone surrounds
with projecting keystones and impost blocks, and fanlights with
radiating glazing bars. Gutter carried on rectangular stone brackets.
End chimneys. At the rear are 2 windows with pointed heads. Interior
has gallery on 3 sides, supported on slim iron columns and with a
panelled front and box pews. Against the rear wall, which has a
niche between the 2 pointed windows, is a raised podium with rails and
chamfered balusters. In front, at a lower level, are communion rails of
similar design.
