7/43 Barn adjoining to south-west of Howgills House 4.12.1979 - II

Barn, being converted into a house (July 1983). Possibly C18th with crucks of C17th or earlier. Sandstone rubble with roof of cedar shingles. One storey. Wider at south-western end. The south-east wall has a wide entrance with plain reveals rising above eaves level and with a gable over. To the left is a door with plain reveals. To the right, set back beyond a section with a modern internal chimney, is a modern window with plain reveals. At the rear is a door with plain reveals and a modern window with plain reveals. Inside are 2 cruck trusses with hardwood purlins and ridge. The eastern truss has a collar and yoke only remaining, with empty housings for a tie beam and with one spur to the north-west wall. The western truss has a tie beam, a collar and a yoke, and one remaining outrider.
