8/89 Coppull Hall - - II

Farmhouse, early C17 or earlier. Hand made brick rear wall, rendered front and sides, all on stone plinth, with some stone quoins and stone dressings, stone slate roof with one ridge chimney (C19 brick). Roughly L-shaped plan formed by intersection of two 2-bay units, with a later wing on the right hand side. Two storeys; front formed by a broad projecting gable and a left wing; entrance to left side of gable front has semicircular stone arch with a moulded hoodmould, deeply recessed door; one window to right, 2 above and one on each floor of left wing, all large segmental-headed C19 sashes with splayed heads; applied timber in gable; right return wall has on each floor an oblong recess indicating position of former mullioned windows; lower 2-storey right wing has a sashed ground floor window with a smaller sashed window above it. Rear wall has in centre a large rectangular door opening, flanking this in the plinth the heads and hoodmoulds of 2 large cellar windows, 2 altered ground floor windows, and an altered 1st floor window breaking the timber frame of an earlier mullioned window. Interior: renovation in progress at time of survey exposed exceptionally large back to back inglenook fireplaces with stone hecks, timber bressummers and bread oven; internal partition next to this with coupled Tudor-arched doorways; large chamfered beams.
