9/141 Barn c. 60 metres south of 17.4.1967 Shaw Place
GV II
Barn, dated 1705. Coursed sandstone, slate roof. Rectangular plan of 6 bays. Plinth and stone band. Wagon doorway with rectangular porch to 4th bay the lintel lettered W , modern brick outshut to right of H H it; 2nd bay has former doorway with chamfered jambs and lintel, now altered as window, a small window with chamfered case on each side at ground floor, and an oval bullseye at flat floor above these, with a square doorway between them. Left gable has 3 ground floor doorways with chamfered jambs and lintel (the outer 2 blocked), 3 oval bullseyes at 1st floor and a circular owl hole in the apex; right gable (altered) now has large square ground floor opening, flanked by doorways with plain lintels (both altered as windows), a 1st floor bullseye flanked by round-headed windows all blocked, and a square doorway in the gable above; rear wall covered by modern cowshed. Interior: formerly lofted at both ends, now open; cambered wooden lintels to openings; original king post roof trusses.
