2/195 Old Baptist Chapel 7.6.1971 (formerly listed as Goodshaw Baptist GV Chapel) II*
Baptist chapel, 1760, enlarged in early C19, restored 1984. Watershot coursed sandstone blocks, stone slate roof with gable copings, restored ball finials on ridge and at gables. Rectangular 3-bay plan single depth enlarged to the front. Two storeys; 2 doorways with plain surrounds and slab canopies on beaked brackets, above and between these 2 large 12-pane boxed sash windows on continuous sill, and at each end on each floor a similar but smaller window. Both return walls show gable and joint line of original lower building; right return wall has marks of former stone steps in the added wall, and a 2-light flush mullion window at ground floor of old wall (with small panes of old glass in lead cames); rear has 3 similar windows with 4-pane fixed glazing at ground floor, 4 similar windows at 1st floor, the outer having been raised within the jambs of lower original openings. Interior: raised desk with sounding board (restored). An unusual survival in being largely untouched since the early C19. In the guardianship of the Department of the Environment.
