TF 0006-0106 TINWELL CROWN LANE 13/173 Post Office, No. 26 and No. 27 GV II
Post Office (originally forge) and cottages, dated 1848, of coursed squared stone with steeply pitched Collyweston stone slate roof and moulded stone ridge stacks. Consciously picturesque. 1½ storeys, 4 window range, 1-2-1, coped gabled projections with decorative kneelers to either end, that to the left with 4-centred, arched entrance within colossal carved horseshoe, and 2-light casement window and blank shield above, that to the right with 3-light mullioned and transomed window to ground floor with hood mould in form of giant ribbon, and 2-light casement window and shield with Exeter logo above. The 2 projections are linked by an arcade of 4-centred arches, stepped up in the centre to incorporate datestone. Entrance to No. 26 within 2 steeply-pitched gabled dormers above. Arched entrance to No. 27 within one-storey gabled projection to north. North front has 2-storey projection with datestone. One-storey projection to south has massive stack to rear, plank door in plain architrave, and shutttered 2-light window.
