Details

SK 80 NW BARLEYTHORPE MANOR LANE (south side) 6/3 Manor House 14.6.54 (Formerly listed as: GV II Manor House with Walter Watchorn Barn)

Manor house, probably early C17. Oriented away from street. Coursed rubble with stone tiled roof. 2 storeys, probably originally 2 or 3 unit plan. plain front has projecting C18 hipped gable to left with large angle quoins and broad sash windows. Right of this, a full-height projecting gabled porch with 4-centred arched doorway with hoodmould, and a 3-light stone mullioned window above. Beyond this, 2 new windows to-ground floor and a 3-light stone mullioned gabled dormer above. Rear has 3 dormers, one long to light stairs, and various other windows, all new. Side elevation reveals an odd constructional detail: a wall-plate jettied out from the plane of the wall on a lateral timber, and carrying the eaves. Moulded stone gable stacks.
