BREEDON-ON-THE-HILL SHORT HILL SK 42 SW (WILSON) 4/28 Brook House 7.12.62 GV II
House, formerly a miller's house and incorporating mill outbuildings. Dated 1636 on rear collar. Timber-framed with diagonal braces and square panels of whitewashed plaster and brick infill. Whitewashed rubble stone plinth, C20 blue tile roof, whitewashed brick chimneys to either side and between right bays. Main block is T-plan with gabled cross wing slightly projecting to left. Attached to rear end of cross wing is a former outbuilding. Another former out- building, now kitchen, is set back at right end of front. 2 storeys: 4-bay front. Early C20 wooden casements, those to ground floor with glazing bars only to top of each light. Those above with glazing bars throughout. Left bay has 2-storey half-timbered bay window with gable and 3-light casements; second bay has C20 7-light bay window to ground floor, and 3-light casement above; third bay has 2-light windows, the lower in blocked doorway; right bay has 3-light and single light casements to ground floor. At right end is a C20 flat-roofed lobby with rear entry. Rear side of cross wing has C20 verandah and small overhanging first floor extension in angle. Interior has some chamfered spine beams with tongue stops. No original fireplaces.
