CASTLE DONINGTON PARK LANE SK 42 NW 2/93 The Lodge, with attached gatepier and wall 18.11.83 (formerly listed as The Lodge and gates) GV II

Lodge at former entrance to Donington Hall (qv), with attached gatepier and wall. Mid C19. Lodge has ashlar walls to ground floor, and half-timbered upper storey with decorative panels of whitewashed herringbone brick infill. Steeply pitched slate roof with wide band of fishscale slates and richly cusped barge- boards. In picturesque Vernacular style. North side has external ashlar chimney with pair of cylindrical Tudor shafts, one with zig-zag ornament, the other spirally fluted, both with octagonal caps. One storey and attic. Upper storey is jettied to east with moulded bressummer on shaped wooden brackets. East end is gabled and has upper storey with traceried panels and canted wooden oriel window with trefoil-headed leaded lights and moulded base. Below is a verandah with hipped slate roof on patterned stone columns with various cushion capitals. Verandah shelters central door with C20 glazed porch and flanking single leaded lights, and has short screen walls with moulded copings and blind 4-centred arches. South side has jettied gabled semi-dormer with Y-traceried arched window, and stone window below with pair of arched lights and Tudor hood- mould. To left is a lower ashlar extension of one bay, with similar ground floor window, and C20 3-light wooden casement to first floor. Attached to north east corner is an octagonal ashlar ate ier with quatrefoil panels to cap, and moulded finial. Running to north west of this is approximately 130 m of dressed stone wall with pitched stone coping, ramped down hill. Wall and gate-pier match those in item 2/94.
