Details

MEASHAM HIGH STREET SK 31 SW 4/40 (South Side) Nos. 39-43 (Odd) GV II Canal warehouse, now shops, of c1800. Red brick - Measham gobs - with brick dentilled eaves and gable band and roof part slate, part C20 tiles. Front rendered. Front of 2 storeys: rear of 3. 3 recessed half round arches, one continuing to ground with 6 2-light casements above and shop fronts below. To left C19 shop front frame with C20 small panes, centre C20 window and door in arch recess, and C20 shop front to right. Right end abuts line of former canal which went under street at this point. Here a recessed giant arch with original 3 blank recessed windows, ground and 1st floor cambered lintels, 2nd floor round arched. Rear has recessed central arch, altered C20 windows and ground floor left large arch and recess originally serving as direct access to wharf. This warehouse and No. 26 exactly opposite were originally designed as mirror images and constitute a noteworthy group.
