Canons Ashby House, walls running from Lion Gates to S to SE corner of house
(Formerly listed as Walls to court and garden and gatepiers at Canons Ashby)

Garden walls, gates and gatepiers. Early C18. Coursed squared ironstone,
ironstone ashlar, some limestone dressings. Stone coped wall running from Lion
Gates (g.v.) at bottom of orchard N, enclosing E side of garden to gates and
gatepiers to park. Gatepiers have moulded plinths, cornices, plain sides and
support suits of armour on square moulded bases with splayed feet. Wrought iron
gates and overthrow. The wall then runs N to meet the SE angle of Canons Ashby
House with a doorway at that end with 4-centred chamfered arch head and jambs.
External buttresses to E, one dated 1873.

Grade II*)
