Former school. 1898. Rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings, tile roof.
One storey, irregular plan, five bays; first, fourth and fifth bays recessed and lower, second and third bays gabled, second projects; tower to right of first bay. Some windows sashed with glazing bars, some have small-paned casements. First bay has hipped projection with three sashes. Second bay has paired two-light pointed recesses with segmental heads and transoms with casements between; roundel above. Third bay has triple pointed window with two transoms and blind heads, flanking lights; casements. Fourth bay has three-light single-chamfered-mullioned window. Sixth bay has two sashes. Tower has pointed tympanum to window, blind slot with label mould, diapered frieze projecting turrets and ramped parapet; recessed timber turret has pyramidal roof and stack to rear. Third bay has lateral stack to left. Left return similar. Projection with ramped parapet with gabled roof domers, and flat-topped dormers. Two entrances have gablets and C20 doors and weathered sills to two overlights. Wall to rear and two open fronted sheds and two outside toilets. That to east has ramped parapet over segmental-pointed entrance, inner gabled bay with lower bays to rear. Rear shed open-fronted with iron posts and hipped roof. West open-fronted shed as above has toilet to rear under lean-to roof and angle turret with pyramidal roof.
Part of a planned village for Price's Patent Candle Company, one of the earliest examples of a model industrial village.
