FREDERICK ROAD 1. 5104 Edgbaston B15 4.2.81 No 43 23.1.81 Nos 42 and 44 SP 0585 NE 40/21 II GV 2. C.1850-55, a group of 3 Italianate stucco villas of 2 storeys, 3 bays, all with similar details. No 42 is detached but linked by screen wall with garage door to Nos 43-44, a semi-detached pair symmetrical overall. Tall properties. Plinth; diamond faceted rusticated quoins; bed string to frieze with console triglyphs supporting flat eaves. Low gable end slate roofs. Large stucco central chimney stack to 43-44 with bracketed cornice. Widely spaced first floor windows, round headed with archivolt arches on moulded console stops, panelled keystones - all with casement ground floors have narrow tripartite windows, the side lights arched, with panelled friezes flanked by large consoles supporting dentil cornices and shallow pediment-blocking courses. Projecting enclosed pilastered porches at head of 3 steps. Concave splay to arched entrances, panelled spandrels, keystones, bed mould to friezes, dentil cornices and deep blocking courses. Fanlights over panelled doors. Effective Italianate group.
