CALTHORPE ROAD 1. 5104 Edgbaston B15 No 25 SP 0585 NE 40/4 21.1.70 II GV 2. A good early Calthorpe estate villa of circa 1820-30. Detached, 2 storeys, 3 bays, stucco faced with left hand entrance bay. Plinth, first floor sill band, flat eaves with broad shallow modillion brackets and hipped slate roof with stucco chimney stacks. Ground floor windows and doorway set in round arched panels with inset sills and aprons down to plinth, rounded heads with glazing bars radiating to them. Plain glazing bar sashes to first floor. The doorway, with panelled reveals and soffit,has the Birmingham type of inset doorcase: Tuscan columns carrying entablature with modillion cornice, radial glazed fanlight. Lower 2 storey wing to left with moulded cornice and blocking course. Screen wall with arched side entrance to right links the 2 storey coach house with segmental arched doors, projecting eaves. Garden front altered circa 1860-70 with canted bays. Italianate garden door between them.
