G.V. II
Public Baths. 1888. By G. Heaton. Rock faced stone with
ashlar dressings, hipped slate roof. 2 storeys, 5 bays
with one-storey 2-bay wings. To rear 2 large gabled wings,
one gable, to left, rebuilt. Cornice over ground floor, top
cornice and parapet with ball finials. Flat pilasters.
Windows have flanking pilasters and transoms. End bay 2-
light windows and central canted bay with 1:2:1-light
windows. Round-headed entrances. flank central bay. Parapet
has central panel and end panes with pediments and flanking
scrolls, the central one inscribed "PUBLIC/BATHS" the
flanking ones with the arms of Lancaster and Bootle.
Flanking bays with 2-light windows. Gable to right is
Dutch, with ball finials, elliptical-headed window and
flanking niches. Gable to left is C20. Rear stack with
machicolations to top. Included for group value.
