Details
ST PAUL'S SQUARE 1. Hockley B3 No 34 (formerly listed as Nos 33 and 54 under City Centre) SP 0687 NW 24/24 21.1.70 II GV 2. Circa 1780 block of 2 or perhaps 3 town houses on north side of square with return to Caroline Street, altered as one property early C20. The likely division appears to have been a 5 bay house by the corner with a 3 bay front adjoining. The elevations are now completely stuccoed. the cornice stopped to a band with parapet coping. Sill course to ground floor windows which are set in plain stucco frames with block cornices. The first floor windows retain their flat stone arches with grooved voussoirs and stepped keys. Fielded panels placed between second floor windows. Leaded casements. Original doorway to presumed 5 bay front survives set on 3 steps: engaged Doric columns and sections of entablature with bracketed open pediment. Panelled reveals, 6 panel door, semi-circular fanlight. Short sections of C18 style railings are swept out to scrolled wrought supports.
