Details
RYLAND ROAD 1. 5104 Edgbaston B15 Nos 37 to 42 (consec) SP 0685 NW 41/15 1.8.79 II GV 2. Circa 1835-40, a small scale 2 storey stucco terrace of 2 bay houses with Grecian details treated as one symmetrical composition. Plinth and first floor sill band. The end and centre bays (the latter broader) are flanked by pilasters on both floors. The end bays have coupled pilasters on ground floor, with linked capping and 2 wreaths in frieze below sill band, but at first floor level they combine to form one broad pilaster with 2 wreaths above the capping. In the centre the pilasters are the same on both floors, single wreath in ground floor frieze and 2 in frieze above first floor. Channelling is struck into central carriage archway and as voussoirs to lintels of flanking house doors. Moulded cornice overall, broken forward over the pilasters with blocking course raised as block pediments in line. Fenestration consists of revealed glazing bar sashes on first floor whilst on ground floor rectangular bay windows with arched centre lights and bracketed cornices, were inserted circa 1900. Splayed eaved architrave doorways except for centre flanking carriage arch where they are plainly revealed, No 39 retaining marginal glazed rectangular fanlight.
