Details

WALSALL MB LICHFIELD STREET (east side) SP 0198 NW SP 0198 NE 13/64 Nos 144A, 145, 146, 14/64 147 & 147A

GV II Shops and offices. Late C19. Brick with sandstone dressings and slate roof. Three storeys. Three principal bays, with two narrow intermediate bays containing doorways to offices. On the ground floor the left-hand bay has an original shop front, and others may exist behind later fascias. At the outer sides of the facade and flanking the doorways are Ionic pilasters with granite shafts. Above is a moulded cornice. On the first floor the three principal bays are flanked by Ionic pilasters supporting an entablature with pulvinated frieze which is bowed forwards above bowed tripartite windows which have pilaster reveals and Ionic columns as mullions. These columns have granite shafts. The intermediate bays have windows with moulded stone surrounds. On the second floor are Corinthian pilasters with an entablature. The main windows are paired sashes with no glazing bars with a column as the central mullion. Intermediate windows have carved stone surrounds. Above are three shaped gables with sandstone decoration. Chimneys on gables, set forwards of ridge, and to left of central gable.
