6/15 Old Hall 4.12.51 - II*

Former farmhouse. C16, C17 and later. Gault brick and red brick with plaintile and pantile roofs. L plan with 3 gabled piles projecting to north of main block; the subsidiary wing is a C17 addition. 2 storeys with attics. South facade mainly C16 in gault brick. Off-centre 2-storey gabled porch with a 3-centred entrance arch and 2-light C18 window above with metal casement. 3 3-light C18 mullion and transom windows with segmental heads to ground floor. One similar first floor window in eastern bay. Elsewhere 2 3-light and one 2-light casements and one C17 2-light brick ovolo-moulded mullion window contemporary with added west wing. Eastern side with large external stack. North facade with 3 crow-stepped attic gables - the wes ternmost bay being a C17 addition with a surviving 2-light chamfered mullion window. Easternmost gable rebuilt. C18 irregular fenestration. 2 mullion and transom windows with segmental heads at ground floor. Early front door with cover strips in renewed frame. 2 3-light and 4 2-light upper casement windows. West wing. North gable-end with original door and double ovolo-moulded frame with barred stops. 4 2-light ovolo-moulded brick mullion windows (2 blocked) beneath rectangular hood moulds. One single light window beneath rectangular hood mould and one C18 3-light casement window, Crow stepped half-gable to west with a horizontal sawtooth and dentil cornice joining on to main block to east. West facade with remains of 5 regularly placed ovolo-moulded brick mullion windows beneath rectangular hood moulds. Mullions survive at ground floor centre only replaced with 3-light casements or blocking elsewhere. Saw- tooth and dentil cornice. South gable-end with 3 surviving windows beneath pediments, one with remaining ovolo-moulded mullions. Crow-stepped gable. East facade with one blocked door and 2 ground floor window openings beneath pediments, Original doorframe re-positioned. 2 first floor window openings one with surviving 4-light brick ovolo-moulded mullions and transom. Saw- tooth and dentil cornice. One axial stack and one eastern external stack to main block. One northern gable-end stack to west wing and gable-end stack to west bay of north facade. Interior. Hall with C16 roll moulded principal beams and joists. Ogee and nicked chamfer stops in western bay of main block. Butt-purlin roofs with collars and wind bracing.
