Details
TRING LONDON ROAD SP 91 SW (South side) 4/87 London Lodge - to Tring Park GV II Gatelodge, now a house. Later C19 for Rothschild family probably by William Huckvale. Half timbered with scalloped tilehanging, chamfered red brick sill and steep red tiled roofs with tall red brick chimneys. A large 1 1/2 storeys gatelodge in Jacobean style facing N beside former drive. Rectangular plan with V-shaped projection of 2 jettied 2-storeyed gabled wings at front with gabled open timber porch between. Highly ornate with carved rustic Ionic pilasters on each upright of 1st floor and as uprights of porch. Mullioned 4-light leaded windows. Bargeboards with pendants. Small dormer on roofslope over porch. 2-panelled front door. Roughcast infill panels.
