Details

TRING RURAL GRAND UNION CANAL - SP 9014 AYLESBURY ARM 9/129 Milepost on towpath - near Wilstone at Grid Ref SP 9024 1435 GV II Milepost giving distance along Aylesbury Arm. 1896 for Grand Junction Canal Company. In raised lettering on back 'LONDON & LANKASHIRE/ ELECTRICAL & GENL/ENGINEERING CO LIMITED/LONDON'. Cast iron painted. A small rectangular upright plate with radiused corners and raised bead at edge. Figure '1' in relief in centre. Plate cast integral with T-section iron post with makers' name once on each half of back. Stone mileposts were replaced by cast iron ones in 1896 (Branch Johnson(1970)120).
