Pair of semi-detached houses. 1904. By CHB Quennell; built by
GW Hart. Red brick. Tiled hipped and gabled roofs with tall
brick chimney-stacks, dormers and overhanging eaves with
painted timber soffits. Asymmetrically designed pair. 2
storeys and attics. Irregular fenestration of 3 windows each.
No.40: projecting gabled outer bay with round-arched entrance
having brick impost bands, panelled door with overlight and,
to left, a projecting bay window of 3 sashes with glazing bars
to upper halves only, rusticated brick quoins at angles and
cornice. Plain brick 1st floor band. 1st floor has gauged
brick flat arch to flush frame tripartite sash and sash to
right with hood formed by a short return of the eaves to give
the gable the appearance of a broken pediment only this side
lower than left. Tripartite sash in gable with brick relieving
arch and moulded brickwork continuing down the gable to eaves.
Narrow central bays with flush framed sashes and continued 1st
floor band.
No.42: similar but with shorter eaves returns to gable
symmetrically set. In roof angle, a tripartite dormer with
outer lights breaking forward.
INTERIORS: not inspected.
