Former country house, now private nursing home; 1893 (datestone), for Sir William Wedderburn. Sussex bond brickwork, ashlar dressings; timber framing painted grey with white rendered infill to first floor on left: tiled roof, part plain, part fishscale; crested ridges. Large, irregular T plan, entrance to cross piece, part 2 rooms deep, 6-window front, 2 storeys. Entrance front, plain plinth, stone top; on left stone quoins to chamfered corner: large bay, 5-light mullion window, 2 transoms, stained glass to upper levels. To right, plain wall, slight projection with chamfered corner, 3-light mullion and transom window, Tudor arches to upper part, flat head, hoodmould, top flanked by consoles on corbels for oriel over. Larger set back on right, with single- storey, gabled porch across angle, stone base with glazed sidelights each side, central opening up 2 stone steps, carved spandrels to arch over, fishscale boarding to gable, fretwork bargeboards with timber finial. Behind 6-panel front door on main wall, panels in 2 rows of 3. To right, single lancet with Tudor arch each side of chimney breast, decorated square stone panel with coat of arms on latter. First floor: moulded string course with leaf decoration to left end, single panel timber framing above below eaves. Timber-framing to gable over large bay: trefoil heads to bottom panels, moulded plaster to central 3, including date '1893': canted oriel above, on brackets, moulded sill, 2- light casement, leaded lights, Tudor arch head: curved collar over in gable, with 'V' struts in apex: decorative bargeboards. To right, set back, similar framing as to left of bay, angle struts added: 3-light casement above with leaded lights, tile hanging each side, flat roof above. Brick gable to right: square oriel window, 3-light casement, with leaded lights, hipped roof; lancet above to roof space, decorative bargeboards. Set back over porch on right; 2-light casement, decorative blue-brick cross to right; beyond lancet in centre of chimney breast, parapet gable over, chimney divided into 2 octagonal flues with decorative stone top. Main roof half hip at each end; on left gablet above, with chimney as on right of facade: bases of 2 chimneys either side of central gable. Right return includes second gable with chamfered corners below, brought out to square above, and original conservatory. Interior not inspected: reported to include fine, unaltered music room.
