GV II
Barn. C16 or early C17, altered mid C19. Timber-framed, boards set between studs, or faced butt-jointed or weatherboarding: roughly squared, coursed stone plinth; corrugated-iron roof. Four-bay barn, left end originally lofted. Double, boarded doors to threshing floor, right hand halved. Single bay to right, boards between studs to bottom panels, butt-jointed boarding above. Two bays to left, first largely faced weatherboarding, some vertical jointing possibly covering former pitching hole. To left 2 panels inset boards at bottom, open beyond: butt-jointed and weatherboarding above. Interior: 3-bay barn, straight braces to tie beam of truss each side from main posts: collar with angle struts, 2 pairs purlins, square ridge, no windbraces to purlins. Main walling 3-panel high framing: right gable renewed, probably in mid C19, with continuous centre rail, irregular members, slight studs between. To left cruck truss originally dividing off end bay, framing below beam at loft-floor level later removed. Crucks to ridge, but feet commence about 1m above sill, pegged to main wall posts. Purlins supported on secondary principals. End bay originally with 3 beams across; curved head for door in gable at rear; opening to loft in centre of gable now boarded over. Roof originally half hip at both ends. Built probably as 3-bay barn, with contemporary lofted bay for stable or oxhouse.
