4/50 Canning Arms

II

Public house; early to mid C19; English bond brickwork, with squared, coursed blue lias for stable, all painted: tiled roof. 'L' plan, cross-wing on left, running away from road: 2 storey. Main block 4 windows wide. Open, single-storey porch with timber posts on stone bases, hipped, lead roof, 4 panel door at back on right. To right single storey bay, projects square for depth of porch, then canted end, 3 equal faces each with 16-pane sash window: hipped, tiled roof. To left of porch 2 two-light wooden casement windows, slightly cambered rubbed brick arches. First floor similar windows. On left gable of cross wing, parapet to gutter to rest of front: plain brick chimney on ridge at junction with cross-wing and on right gable. To right, single-storey wing, with 4-pane casement window in hipped dormer against gable of main block. Below, 5 small 1970's windows: ridge chimney at end. Beyond, slightly lower stable block, central boarded door with stone voussoirs to cambered arch; either side wooden casement window with flat brick arch.
