School building. 1899 by Reginald Blomfield as SCHOLA MUSICAE on site of the old lodge. Red brick with stone dressings and Westmorland Slate roof. A tall rectangular building of one storey and attics, with a 7-windows W front to the road and gable entrance on N end to the drive. Stone quoins and eaves band with moulded wooden cornice. Triangular pediments to gables and 3-windows wide projection in middle of road front. This has a large lunnette in the gable and stone keystones to rubbed brick flat arches over the slightly recessed boxed sash windows with 6/6 panes. Narrower sash windows to this front have 4/4 panes. High entrance door on N up 3 steps, has an eared moulded architrave with stepped keystone within stone Tuscan engaged columns supporting an inscribed beam and broken pediment. The tympanum is entirely in fine red rubbed brickwork with central moulded stone window surround and projecting keystone and apron. The E front is as the road front but with a round arched doorway in the central pedimented projection (Blunt (1966)).
