Details
BIBURY THE GREEN, Arlington SP 1006-1106 (north side) 11/90 High Gables and The Old Bakery (previously listed as House immediately North of Baptist Churc 23.1.52 GV II Formerly detached house, now 2 houses with attached former bakery to The Old Bakery. Early-mid C17; bakery dated 1803. Random rubble limestone; ashlar and yellow brick rebuilt chimneys; stone slate roof. Two-storey with attic; bakery wing projects forward from east end of front; outbuilding wing to rear. Front: 2 gables; 2-window fenestration, 3-light to ground and upper floors, 2-light to attics. All have hoodmoulds, recessed chamfered mullioned casements to High Gables to left - possibly a replacement - recessed cavetto to The Old Bakery to right. Central doorway with timber lintel and plank door serves High Gables; other similar doorway to The Old Bakery has lean-to porch in angle with bakery wing to right. Main roof eaves to High Gables has been raised. Bakery wing was converted from barn, probably in late C19, both barn doorways being blocked with timber lintels remaining. Large inserted casement set in former doorway on south west side; chimney gable with rebuilt stack to Left. Inserted casement and doorway in front gable end of bakery with datestone 'W.T. 1803' set in gable apex Rear: tall lateral ashlar chimney to rear of The Old Bakery with attached single-storey outbuilding range. Two gables to right. Rear of High Gables is somewhat restored. Interior not inspected but C19 ovens said to remain in former bakery.
