1. 4412 FOOTSCRAY ROAD SE9 (East Side) ---------- No 141 (Southend House) (formerly listed as Nos 141, 141A and 143) TQ 4373 60/W35 26.3.54.

2. House divided into several flats at time of survey (1971). House of early C18 appearance in front, although C17 work is visible on returns and there may be some C16 remains. 2 storeys, attic and sunk basement, 5 windnws. High pitched, slated roof with end chimneys, that at left rebuilt, that at right a massive external stack with row of 5 conjoined diagonal shafts having cornices in 3 planes. 3 square dormers. Red brick with parapet. Left return has cuRVEDgable ends. 1st floor band. Gauged, segmental brick arches to sash windows with delicate glazing bars, of early C19 date but set in old flush moulded frames. 2-storey, 2 window late C19 extension at right. Entrance, on left return, of early C19 appearance set in wall partly rebuilt and extended to rear at that date. Nothing remains of doorcase but paired pilasters at either side. House extends a long way back and has been altered and added to at different periods. Rear elevation shows early C19 windows and brickwork of that and earlier times; also 2 more massive stacks of conjoined chimney shafts and one small one. Interior largely restored in late C19 but retains one early C19 curved staircase. Parts of ho5se in poor condition at time of survey.
