THE AVENUE 1. 5010 (east side) W4 TQ 2179 7/44 2.2.70 No 36 II GV 2. 1879. By R N Shaw. Red brick and tile hanging under tile roof. Two and 3 storeys, gable to front elevation, pediment to side facing Blenheim Road with enriched plaster tympanum. Varied fenestration including a number of wood casement bays. The ground floor windows are of the Ipswich type. Gabled dormer to the left of the large gable. Brick end stacks. An unaltered example of Norman Shaw's first design for a detached house. Illustrated on p 206 of 'R Norman Shaw' by Andrew Saint. The studio wing facing Blenheim Road is original and included in the listing. Originally occupied by the artist J Nash.
