4/103 Coachman's House and Clock Tower 20.2.67 approximately 20 metres east of 14.7.87 Hudscott House GV II*
Coachmans House. 1711. Brick, Flemish bond facade and stone rubble to rear. Gabled slate roof with brick ridge stack and bell-cote to front gable end. Plan : Small rectangular plan with 2 rooms on each floor with central stack heating left-hand room and staircase to front of stack. Entrance at rear to left-hand room. 2 storeys. 3 bays. Symmetrical. Original fenestration with two 24-paned hornless sashes with thick glazing bars on each floor flanking blind window above round- headed niche. Clockface set diamond-wise in gable with the date 1711. Bellcote above is open-sided with timber uprights supporting ogee lead roof. The clock mechanism, made by Lewis Pridham, is also dated 1711 and in perfect working order. The Coachmans House faces Hudscott House and is an early and very unspoilt example of its type. It forms a group with the stable block and integral gatepiers and flanking walls (q.v.) all of which are brick fronted but of stone rubble construction at the rear.
