KINGSTON-UPON-THAMES LEATHERHEAD ROAD (west side) Milestone on the west side of the road beside the car park at Chessington World of Adventure

(Formerly listed as Milestone on the west side of the road beside the car park at Chessington Zoo)

II Probably late C18. Square Portland stone milestone set diagonally to the road with triangular top.

The top is inscribed: "ROYAL EXCHANGE 17 MILES/WHITEHALL 15¼ MILES/HYDE PARK 14 MILES/PARISH OF CHESSINGTON". The south east face is inscribed: "TO SURBITON/3 MILES/KINGSTON/4 MILES". The north east face is inscribed: "TO LEATHERHEAD/4 MILES/DORKING/9 MILES".

The lettering is in plain capitals without serifs.
