30.6.75 - II

Shown on OS map as Tytchney. House. Late C16 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations and additions. Timber-framed, rendered infill, sandstone rubble base, plain tiled roofs, parapet at right gable end, plain tiled roofs, three brick ridge stacks with joint cap, also rear and right end external chimneys with offsets. Hall and cross-wing type plan; hall of two framed bays with inserted chimney at upper end forming lobby-entry to front; two-bay cross-wing at left gable end, its side elevation facing the road. There is a single bay wing added to the rear gable end of the cross-wing at right angles. Part single storey and attic, part two-storey, attic and cellar. Framing: main range of three panels from sill to wall-plate, cross-wing of two panels from sill to girding-beam and two above girding-beam to wall-plate; short straight braces in upper corners of cross-wing; rear wing has long straight braces in lower corners of first floor; collar- and-tie-beam trusses with queen struts and V-struts in apex. Front elevation: C20 casements throughout; main range has two 2-light ground floor windows, two gabled dormers with 2-light windows; archway adjacent to cross-wing into lobby with (lanking C20 doors; single storey wing at right end with 3-light window in gable end and glazed door at left side. Cross- wing gable end has plank weathering between storeys, scalloped bargeboards and 2-light ground and first floor windows and an attic light. Main entrance now at rear through outshut. Interior: main beams are stop- chamfered. Ground floor of cross-wing has painted inscriptions within cable surround and also Tudor rose decoration on beams, now mainly erased. Cl7 oak panelling on first floor of cross-wing.
