Details

HIMBLETON CP HIMBLETON SO 95 NW 6/162 The Galton Arms Inn - II House, now public house. C17 with mid-C19 alterations and additions. Timber-framed, painted brick infill, brick additions painted to resemble timber-framing, two-span plain tiled roofs. Three framed bays aligned north/south with external chimney at south gable end and rear C19 parallel ranges to west side. Two storeys with dentilled eaves cornice to additions. Framing: roof of original part has been raised; three rows of panels plus one additional row above to new eaves level; original wall-frame has short straight braces across upper corners; collar and tie-beam truss with four struts to collar and V-strut in apex retained in north gable end. East elevation: ground floor has four 3-light casements, one with a plank weathering; first floor has four 2-light casements; entrance to left of centre has a C20 door; C19 chimney to right of roof pitch. North gable ends each have a C19 bay window with a hipped roof, modillion cornice, 4-pane sash window and plain side sashes; above each is an attic light with plank weathering; to the right of the bay window, in the original gable end, is the main entrance which has a 4-panelled door and flat canopy on consoles. Interior: rear wall-frame appears mainly intact. A C19 single-storey addition encloses the external chimney at the south gable end.
