Dovecote and attached cow house about 30 yards
north of Court Farmhouse

Dovecote, now store, and attached cow house. Mid- to late C19. Dovecote:
brick, pyramidal plain tiled roof with overhanging eaves. Square plan. Two
levels; south elevation facing farmhouse has a square light and doorway at
ground-floor level and a large central doorway at upper level, all with gauged
flat heads; west and north elevations have a central lancet with ashlar dressings
flanked by blind cruciform slit windows. Large elaborate painted timber
lantern with cross-gabled roof; pointed-arched recess to each face, two rows
of plank weatherings, pierced scalloped bargeboards, moulded finials and pendants
at gable bases and apexes; crowned by a weathervane. Interior: ground floor has
parallel tunnel vaulted ceiling aligned north/south. Gable end of Cow house
adjoins east elevation; brick, blue brick dressings, plain tiled roof with
parapets at gable ends; two bays, two levels with dentilled eaves cornice.
Main south elevation has two wood-mullioned windows and two doorways, all
with cambered heads. 2-light C19 casement at east gable end with C20 attic
light above. A large well-detailed dovecote on a prominent site and of group
value with Court Farmhouse (qv).
