Details
HANBURY CP BROUGHTON GREEN SO 96 SE 4/75 Little Lodge Farmhouse - II
Farmhouse. Early C17 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations and additions. Timber-framed, rendered infill, plain tiled roof. Three framed bays aligned east/west having central chimney with two diagonal brick ridge stacks between two easternmost bays and former lobby entrance. Two storeys, attic and cellar. Framing: mainly four panels from sill to wall-plate, short straight braces in upper corners; east gable end has collar and tie-beam truss with two collars, two struts to lower collar and concave-sided V-strut in apex; west end truss of similar type but probably a little later in date having three struts to single collar and V-strut above. South front elevation: ground floor has a 2-light and a 3-light casement; first floor has a 3-light casement; former main entrance has a 4-panelled C20 door; present main entrance in C20 lean-to addition to rear right. Interior: chamfered main beams have stepped ogee stops; large sandstone fireplace; a moulded decorated console at attic level on the outer side of the central bay west wall might suggest that the west bay is a later addition. A large two-storey and cellar addition of c1860 adjoins to the rear of the west bay and has a long single-storey wing to its east side elevation running parallel and attached to the original house. The farm is part of the former Bearcroft Estate.
