Details

HANBURY CP DROITWICH ROAD (south side) SO 96 SE The Vernon Arms Public House 4/84 - II House, now public house. Late C18 with late C19 and mid-C20 alterations and additions. Brick, painted to front elevation, plain tiled roof and brick end stacks. Two storeys, attic with dormer and cellar; dentilled eaves cornice; three bays; ground-floor outer bays have C19 canted flat-roofed bay windows with moulded cornices and architraves, and ornate hexagonal glazing; the first floor retains its 12-pane sash windows with cambered heads and moulded architraves except for the central window which is blocked and screened by a large openwork coat-of-arms; above is a small central gable containing a pointed-arched window with traceried Gothick glazing; the central entrance has a C19 gabled porch with fluted pilasters and entablature, and a C20 door; there is a square light in the right side elevation. Attic light in left gable end. This building with its interesting details is prominently situated at a main road junction.
