Details
CROWLE CP OLD TURNPIKE ROAD (south side) SO 95 NW Crowle Green 6/31 Anvil Cottage, Jasmine Cottage and Old Chequers Cottage GV II House, divided into three dwellings. C17, altered mid-C19 and mid-C20. Timber- framed, rendered and painted brick infill and brick replacement walling, plain tiled roofs, raised to north front elevation. L-plan; main range aligned east/ west of four framed bays with wing of two framed bays adjoining to rear of west end bay; second bay from west of main range has inserted chimney with ridge stack forming lobby entry plan; also large external chimney with offsets to rear east end bay and at rear wing gable end, and C19 external stack with offsets at west gable end. Originally all single storey and attics; main range now two storeys. Framing: two and three panels from sill to wall-plate with additional upper row added to front elevation when roof raised; long straight braces in lower corners, collar and tie-beam trusses with struts. Windows are mainly C20 casements. Front elevation: four windows, one to each bay, ground floor has three 2-light windows and bow window, first floor has four 2-light windows; entrance to Anvil Cottage has a C20 gabled timber porch and is situated beneath the ridge stack. Entrance to Jasmine Cottage in east gable end has a glazed porch and stable door; attic light in gable above. Old Chequers Cottage in rear west wing has entrance in east elevation and an attic light in the gable end.
