Farmhouse. Early C16 main wing and C17 added wing, C20 alterations. Close-studded timber-framing with decorative herringbone framing in gable of earlier wing; square panelled framing to later wing; sandstone rubble plinth, part painted brick, part wattle-and-daub infill. Slate roofs. Earlier wing aligned north/south with later wing adjoining and extending to east; lateral stack to earlier wing, axial stack to later wing backing onto through-passage. Present entrance in C20 rebuilding of north gable end of earlier wing. Two storeys to earlier wing, single storey and attic to later wing. South front: gable end of earlier wing to left with jettied upper floor underbuilt on ground floor but with jetty retained to west side with moulded bressummer, shaped brackets and attached shafts. Three-light multi-pane C20 metal casement window to first floor, similar C20 wooden window to ground floor; irregular fenestration to later wing to right of one 4-pane casement window and 2-light glazing bar casement window to left end and two C20 windows to right of half-glazed C20 door. The interior retains a cross-beamed ceiling in main room of earlier block with heavily moulded main beams and subsidiary joists. (RCHM, Vol III, p 33). -
