5/10 Church of All Saints

GV II*

Parish church. Late C13 or early C14 restored during late C19. Roughcast sandstone rubble, dressed rubble dressings; tiled roof. Continuous nave and chancel, entrance to north side. North front: early C14 single light with trefoil head to left of two-centred.arched headed chancel doorway with chamfered jambs of similar date. Three-light C19 window to nave to left of doorway with two-centred arched head and chamfered jambs. South side has similar doorway to north nave doorway and C19 window to the right, partially blocked by the addition of a brick flue. Square headed window with iron grate and wooden shutter to right; single trefoil headed light to chancel to right. East window: C14, two trefoil headed lights with a quatrefoil, trefoil headed light to west end. Interior: early C18 gallery at west end of nave on two oak posts with moulded capitals and bases, fielded panels, panelled standards and moulded capping now blocked to ground floor. At the rear of the gallery partition is a doorway with a panelled door and a fanlight with three radiating flat balusters. C18 dado of fielded panelling to nave walls and nave partition. Early C18 communion rails with turned balusters and book board. Early C18 pulpit, semi-hexagonal with panelled sides. Early C14 piscina in chancel with trefoiled head; further piscina in south wall of nave with trefoiled head: Fragments of C14 glass re- assembled in the east window. Font, possibly C15, octagonal bowl with hollow splayed underside, later brick base. Monuments: Thomas Harley memorial, 1738 wall tablet, marble pedimented surround with cartouche of arms below.
