19.8.53 - II

Farmhouse. Dated IA . EA 1652. Timber-framed with wattle-and-daub infill largely refaced with sandstone rubble and part rendered to south front. T-shaped plan with main block aligned east/west and cross-wing at east end; further additions to west extending to south. Main axial stack to cross- wing, later west gable-end stack to main block. Two storeys and attics. North entrance front; gable end of cross-wing to left revealing square panelled timber-framing, one 2-light casement window in gable and tripartite glazing bar sash window to ground and first floor. Ledged doorway to right with lean-to porch. Main block to right with group of four square lights below eaves and above line of lean-to main entrance porch. Three-light case- ment window to right; ground floor, 3-light casement window to lean-to with two 2-light casement windows to right, panelled door to west return of lean- to. The datestone is in the south gable end of the cross-wing. The interior retains a cross-beamed ceiling and a large open fireplace in the cross-wing with a bread oven. The staircase has imported C17 twisted balusters.
