Details

OVERBURY CP - SO 9437 - 9537 9/104 Nos 48 and 49 GV II

Pair of houses. 1875 and attributed to Richard Norman Shaw for Robert Martin. Coursed dressed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, stone tiled roof in diminishing courses, gable-end parapets with kneelers and gabled finials and central ashlar ridge stack with four shafts and moulded capping and base. Single storey and attic with half-dormers and chamfered plinth. Two bays. Windows are chamfered mullioned type with casements and one of three lights with hoodmoulds on the ground floors; gabled half-dormers have gabled finials and there is a 3-light and a 2-light window with drip- moulds. Entrance to No 49 to left has a doorway with a 4-centred head and hoodmould. Similar entrance to No 48 at right gable end with datestone above inscribed "RM/1875". Attic lights in gable ends and loophole in apex of both gables. This building is similar in design, detail and date to Nos 45 and 47 (qv). (Saint, A: Richard Norman Shaw, London, 1976).
