Details
BECKFORD CP GRAFTON SO 9635- 9735 11/41 Cowhouse at Lower Farm about 12 yards west of Lower Farm Cottages GV II
Cowhouse, possibly a former dwelling. Circa 1600, with mid-C19 alterations. Part coursed limestone rubble, part timber-framed with rendered infill on rubble base with some weatherboarding and brick replacement walling. L-plan; main part aligned east/west and probably of five bays with south-east wing of three bays; there is a chimney in the central bay of the south-east wing with a brick ridge stack. Two levels. Framing: main north elevation has three rows of panels.from sill to wall-plate. East side of wing has one row of panels at eaves level and a short straight brace in the left upper corner. Main south elevation has three stable doors (one with a cambered brick head) and three loft openings. The west elevation of the south-east wing has two ground floor openings (one with a cambered head) and a ledged and battened door in the central bay. Boarded loft opening in west gable end of main part. Interior not accessible.
