Details
ASHTON UNDER HILL CP ELMLEY ROAD (west side) SO 9837 - 9937 11/20Bredon Holt 30-7-59 - II House, formerly divided into two dwellings. C17; mid-C19 alterations and extended mid-C20. Limestone rubble with thatched roof and ridge end stacks. Two bays aligned east/west with large chimneys at each end. Single storey and attic with dormers. South front elevation: ground floor has a 2-light and a 3-light casement, two eyebrow dormers with 3-light casements; there is an entrance to both bays and each has a thatched porch on timber posts with trellis infill and a ledged and battened door. Attic lights at east gable end. Substantial limestone and thatched two-storey C20 cross-wing at west gable end. Interior: central timber-framed partition with collar and tie-beam truss (two collars). The main ceiling beams are stop-chamfered, the east bay has a large fireplace with bread oven and salt-drying shelf and an elm winder stair.
