Details
ALMELEY CP THE STOCKS SO 35 SW 1/33 Lower Stocks 20.2.53 GV II Farmhouse. Probably C16 and C17 with later alterations. Timber-frame with brick and plaster infill and brick underpinnings. Welsh slate roofs with sandstone rubble and brick stacks. T-plan with cross-wing aligned east/west attached to north end of main range. Two storeys and attics. East elevation has 1:2:2 windows with gable front to right-hand side. Lean-to on left-hand side has one 2-pane late C19 window; main range has two juxtaposed 3-light late C18 or early C19 wrought iron case- ments; gable has two early C20 casements to left of centre. Ground floor has 2-light late C19 casement with segmental head in left-hand lean-to. Main range has a 3-light casement of the same date as those above it and a mid-C20 brick glazed porch and contemporary glazed front door. Gable has canted late C19 bay window with two forward-facing lights. Frame of upper part of main range has a section of close-studding beneath the two first floor casements. Gable front has four panels from cill to large tie. Angle struts from corner posts to tie. Above the tie are scissor braces. To the right of the bay window is a former entry with triangular head. West elevation has two extruded sandstone stacks. Interior inaccess- ible at time of re-survey (October 1986); noted by RCHM as having C17 stair- case. RCHM erroneously refers to Lower Stocks as Upper Stocks. (RCHM, Vol III, p 7).
