Details

BURRINGTON CP SO 47 SW SO 43587206 3/5 Burrington Bridge II Road bridge over River Teme. Late C18.Coursed dressed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. Single elliptical arch with projecting dropped keyblock and circular flood outlets pierced in spandrels. Above the arch- way there is a corbel table beneath the parapet. The plain parapet has an ashlar coping and the ends are splayed and terminate in rectangular piers with flat capping. The bridge is about five yards wide and 34 yards long. The bridge is of simpler but similar design to Castle Bridge (qv) and Forge Bridge (qv) downstream, all of which are situated on the Downton Castle (qv) estate and may have also been designed by Richard Payne Knight.
