HOPE UNDER DINMORE CP HOPE UNDER DINMORE SO 55 SW 5/70 Malthouse find byre about 25 yards north-north-west of Bury of Hope Farmhouse GV II Malthouse, possibly former servants' quarters and adjoining byre. Mid-C18, altered mid-C19. part sandstone rubble with plain tiled roof. Malthouse: three storeys, four bays. Main east elevation: windows have ashlar surrounds, there are two ground floor rectangular windows, four first floor rectangular windows and four second floor square windows. Ledged and battened door to left and, to right external sandstone steps lead up to a first floor doorway. At the north end is a collar and tie-beam truss with four struts to the lower collar, three struts to the upper collar and a V-strut in the apex. Interior: (not inspected at time of re-survey, June 1986) the roof structure is said to be of interest. Furthermore, the maltings (kilns, drying floors etc) are said to have largely survived. Byre: timber-framed-and weatherboarded on rubble base with corrugated metal roof. Six framed bays adjoining north gable end of malthouse. Two levels. East elevation has ten doorways. There are two square openings at the north gable end. Interior: two and three rows of panels from sill to wall-plate. North end has a collar and tie-beam truss with two collars, five struts to lower collar, and three to upper collar. There are intemediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts.
