Details

BODENHAM CP off BOWLEY LANE (east side) SO 55 SW 5/39 Lower Broadfield and adjoining outbuilding II Farmhouse, now house and adjoining outbuilding. Mid-C17 with mid-C19 and late C20 alterations. Timber-framed with rendered infill on sandstone rubble base with two-span slate roof and brick stack at north-east end to rear of front ridge. Parallel three-bay ranges aligned north-east/south-west with external rubble chimney and circular bread oven at south-west end of front range. Two storeys and attic. Framing: five rows of rectangular panels from sill to wall-plate, collar and tie-beam trusses with struts and V-struts above collar. North-west front elevation: windows are C20 casements with moulded architraves. There are two ground and first floor 4-light windows and a central first floor 2-light window with a transom light. The central entrance has a C20 gabled timber porch and a half-glazed C20 door. Attic lights in gable ends. Outbuilding adjoins north-east end. Also timber-framed with rendered infill on tall rubble base with slate roof. Probably three framed bays aligned north-west/south-east. Two levels. Framing: two rows of square panels at upper level; similar trusses to main house. North-west end has a 4-light ground floor window (similar to those in the main house) and a loft door. There is a doorway with a right side light and two rectangular C20 upper-level lights in the north-east end. A rubble range adjoins the north- east side which has an inserted garage doorway and a loft door with a raking- top roof adjacent to the main outbuilding. (RCHM Herefs II, p 16, item 28).
