UPTON-UPON-SEVERN CHURCH STREET SO 8540 2/14 (south side) 25.3.68 Nos 2 to 6 (even) GV II* Circa 1720 brick refacing of late C16 hall house, reputedly a manorial courthouse. Now 3 houses. The 2 bay hall is incorporated into the east side of No 2 and No 4, the end bay is now No 6. The west side of No 2 incorporates a separate timber-framed range of C1600, separately roofed. Exposed timbers in east gable. Main range with continuous roof line with central brick stack. Plain tiles.
Front has continuous parapet with 5 urns, but 6 window main range apparently 3-storey with dummy attic windows and 3 window end range apparently 2-storey with larger windows, dummy on 1st floor. Early C18 glazing bars survive on dummy windows and to all windows of No 2. Flat rubbed brick arches and moulded stone sills throughout. Original pedimented wood door hoods to Nos 2 and 4. Eight panel doors to Nos 2 and 6. C18 lead rain washer head to No 4.
Fine interior to No 2. Staircase hall with altered stair and C1720 moulded plaster ceiling over. Two large rooms in end section, ground floor with late C18 panelling, 1st floor with earlier C19 plaster borders, and 2 full height sashes with glazing bars in west wall.
